Strong and long lasting

Experiment, grow and learn.

Does everyone really know everything about all things all the time? Looking around at all the influencers, ranters and ravers, it appears so. But I certainly don’t and think that most gardeners, even after years and years of preparing, planting, caring and harvesting, still find new ways and new approaches. Isn't that one of the joys of having your own domain in the back yard where you can play around and experiment to your hearts content, learning and improving all the time, without hurting anyone or anything. So why not try a few different things, and see what comes of it, what is the worst that can happen?

For example, rather than tearing up old plants like capsicums, cabbages and broccoli, why not see if you can get another season out of them (and another and another). Once winter is over and it looks as if the plants are active again, simply trim and remove all that is dead and finished, then feed it to encourage fresh shoots, which will help extend productivity. This will work best with heirloom varieties, but results will be different depending on the varieties, some refreshing and others not bothering, but that is what experimentation is about, seeing what your garden likes and how much more productive you can make it.

I have also been trialling the greenhouse frame as a hothouse over the garden beds. This enables me to plant seedlings early and in the place where they will grow, so no need to transplant them. It also allows me to keep them growing for longer at the other end of their lives. It's all about getting the most from the plants and garden and that involves trial, error and sometimes even success.

Have a go and see what happens! Like the plants, you will grow from the experience.

Enjoy

Peter
