Seed sowing

Its only October but someone said to me the other day that Christmas is coming! It certainly starts early and really points out how fast the years go. How can it be that days that are so long go so fast?

And here we are at the start of another month, looking at what we should sow. If you are wanting some ideas, there isa list below of plants that are good to go this month.

When looking at sowing seeds, should you just scatter them around or plant them in rows? Well, it does not really matter, both work. Rows are neat, easy to maintain and can be placed in the right spot. The wild look of scattering, with things mixed up and together, can look thrilling and beautiful, but they don’t always fall in the ideal location and can get crowded out by bigger, taller plants. Although this can happen in rows also if you are not careful and sow a taller growing plant to the north which can block out the sun to smaller plants behind. Bear this in mind also if you let the plant go to seed, as that can overtake everything around.

So, it becomes a matter of preference. What is more important is the access to sunlight and the health of the soil, something that is always worth working on and layering up, before planting

Enjoy!
