Beans, original from the bottom half of the Americas, have been around for years, are versatile and nutritious and in most places they are ready for planting.
As always, it is best to grow them from your own seeds, which can be stored for years when kept in a glass jar with a sprinkling of hydrated lime. When you are ready to use them, give them a soak for a few hours to soften the seed and get them ready for sprouting.
Choose a garden bed that gets good sun, as they like it nice and warm, and don’t skimp on the good quality planting mix, superfoods, compost and manures, as that will all end up feeding the plants.
Run a stringline up and / or around your frame to give them something to climb up and over, and beneath that make finger sized holes about 20cm apart and place 3 beans in each hole
Then just water them in with some liquid food and watch and tend and train and harvest!
Enjoy!
